We all know the heartbreak the Patriots suffered at the end of the 2017-18 season, a loss in Super Bowl LII at the hands of the underdog Philadelphia Eagles. Now, moving into the new season, the Patriots will have many more challengers just in the AFC alone.
I'll be breaking down each team, division by division, and giving my record predictions, as well as strengths and weaknesses heading into Training Camp. Here's a look at the VERY early AFC East predictions. AFC East: 1. New England Patriots (12-4) Tom Brady is entering his age 41 season, which means that defenses around the NFL will be gunning to end the dynasty he, as well as the Patriots have been able to maintain for what seems like an eternity. However, there are still holes on the defensive side of the ball, and the losses of Malcolm Butler, Nate Solder and Danny Amendola will hurt New England, but it won't be enough to keep Brady and Belichick from their 10th straight division championship. 2. Buffalo Bills (10-6) Buffalo fell to Jacksonville on Wild Card weekend, and were arguably just a quarterback away from reaching the Divisional Round. Buffalo had one of the strongest defenses in football, and in all likelihood, will be just as strong, if not stronger this year. The Bills are a team that has often been overlooked, but it may just be time for that narrative to change. 3. Miami Dolphins (7-9) While Miami better on paper this off-season, i believe on the field chemistry will be an issue. Ryan Tannehill is coming back from a catastrophic injury, and it will take a good amount of time before he'll be able to gel with his new teammates. Miami's defense is also significantly stronger, but their schedule includes many over-powering offenses with the likes of New England, Green Bay, Minnesota, Oakland and Houston. It will be an improvement for Miami, but they're not quite there yet. 4. New York Jets (4-12) The Jets are in full blown rebuild mode, however, they did make a big stride towards the future with the selection of USC product Sam Darnold in the NFL Draft. USC is not known for producing great NFL quarterbacks, but Darnold is one of the most anticipated rookies in a long time, and it will be interesting to see if the pick pays off in the years to come. It won't be a easy road back to success for New York, but you have to start somewhere. Disagree with any of my predictions?
