This is going to be short, sweet and to the point.
Tom Brady will play in 2018. There's nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise. I'll tell you why. The man is just coming off a historic season in which he won the MVP in his age 40 season. As well as coming 2:06 short of winning his sixth Super Bowl ring. There is no way... I repeat. NO WAY, that Brady is retiring after losing a game like that. On that stage. In that moment. From a guy that works as hard as he does to constantly stay one step ahead of the competition, there's not a chance he goes out like that. Especially with all the animosity that's been surrounding the Patriots this off-season, there's no doubt Brady's heard the chatter and he's going to go out there and make the haters eat their words. That's what he's done for 18 years as. a Patriot, and that's what he'll continue to do in year 19. Adam Schefter reported earlier this week that Brady had "not yet committed to playing in 2018", similar to what Rob Gronkowski had done a few weeks prior. Gronkowski had made it public that he would only return if Brady was a part of the team. There's no reason for worry. In the past two days alone, NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) confirmed Brady would be back in 2018. As well as Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe), a Patriots beat reporter, broke the news yesterday on Twitter that "Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman and potentially more Patriots will be in Montana in July to work out together before training camp." See? Nothing to worry about. Everyone is just praying for the dynasty to end. They're going to have to wait at least one more season.

The Patriots are walking a very fine line between present and future. The person walking that virtual tightrope? A man by the name of Tom Brady. If we're being honest here, Brady is the Patriots franchise right now. For the past 19 seasons, Brady has carried the weight of the team on his shoulders, and he's been the center of the football universe for the bulk of his career. Sometimes for good reasons, and other times, not so good. It's kind of hard to avoid when you're the best player in the history of the sport. Comes with the territory, you know? With Brady approaching his age 41 season, many people are expecting a big drop-off from the 5-time Super Bowl champion. Those are the same people that said the same thing last year before he went on to win the league MVP and reach the Super Bowl. *Ahem, Max Kellerman* Obviously it's getting closer and closer to the time when Brady will announce his retirement, and the Patriots will need to start looking for his successor sooner, rather than later. But, there's more than one reason the Pats should take a quarterback early in this years draft. To motivate Brady. We've seen it before when the Pats took Jimmy Garoppolo back in 2014. Brady didn't take kindly to that, and took it personally. He made sure to raise the level of his play to make sure New England would have no other option but to ride him out until the very end. If the Patriots are smart, they will take a quarterback very early, maybe even in the first round. That will light a fire inside of Brady, and get him to perform at the MVP level for one or two more ears and finish off his career with a title. Because 6-time Super Bowl champion has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? A couple of names the Patriots have been linked to are UCLA QB Josh Rosen, and most recently, Louisville QB and 2016 Heisman Trophy winner, Lamar Jackson. If the Patriots were to bring Jackson to Foxboro, Brady certainly approves. He's been quoted as saying "He's [Jackson] a beast!!!!" No matter who the Pats elect to take as Brady's replacement, they'll set themselves up for not only the future, but more importantly,,, The present. |
