The Red Sox had been rolling as of late but, they took a huge blow to the stomach last night in Tampa Bay. Not only did they lose the game 4-3 on an ugly final play, they also lost their young phenom, Andrew Benintendi. Benintendi suffered an ugly knee injury trying to dash back to second base in the sixth inning last night, and had to be helped off by Red Sox manager John Farrell and the Red Sox trainer.
The 22-year old star would not comment on his injury however, after the game he had this to say. "We're just going to see how it feels tomorrow". It' such a shame to see a young talent like this go down for potentially a long period of time. Benintendi was hitting .324 in his first 21 MLB games, and really gave the Red Sox sort of a second leadoff man, if you will. Benintendi is scheduled to have an MRI today on his knee as well as his ankle. After his time on the 15 Day-DL is up, expect John Farrell to be extremely cautious with him. Only time will tell for how long it may take until we see "Benny Baseball" back on the field. John Farrell did announce that Chris Young would be the everyday LF until his return.
